We know that photos are a big part of a wedding for any couple – they represent life-long memories that will be passed down through generations to come! We at Cream City Weddings are here to guide and assist you throughout the whole process of preparing for your big day, including what it takes to find the right style for your wedding photos! While some brides are more interested in highly stylized, photo shoot-type photos, other brides are looking for more for simplistic, candid shots to highlight the special moments of their day. No matter what type of bride or photography style you’re going for, this blog should help give you some tips and tricks to posing for photos on your big day!
Candid shots. These photos can be super fun and memorable to look back on because they represent all the bright and fun personalities of the wedding party! Even if they start out as staged, laughing shots often turn into genuine snapshots of laughter as we all know how contagious laughter can be! It can also be the perfect way to start a shoot as it helps the bride and her bridesmaids to relax and get comfortable in front of the camera.
Stay close together. Another thing we advise our brides and their bridesmaids to do is move close together and embrace each other. Keeping the bride in the foreground with the bridesmaids bunched up next to her creates a heartwarming and intimate look to the photos. This also helps to single the bride out while the bridesmaids compliment her on either side.
When it comes to photographing the groomsmen, it’s important to showcase their individual personalities. Just like with the bride and her bridesmaids, natural smiles and laughter always produce genuine and touching photos. We like to spread out the guys at varying depths from the camera while keeping a focus on the groom. This creates a unique perspective within the photo depending on the varying heights of all the groomsmen. For example, if the groom is shorter, it may be more appealing to have his groomsmen sit around him. No matter what, keeping the groom and/or bride as the focal point of the images is what really highlights the meaning of the day!
Mixing and matching the groomsmen and bridesmaids can be a fun alternative to traditional photos of the wedding party. We love to have bridesmaids stand next to the groomsmen they are paired with as it’s an easy way to create the illusion of a formal photo. This technique showcases the wedding party in a unique way while keeping the bride and groom at the center.
