Cream City’s Urban Garden is the perfect place for intimate outdoor weddings in an urban setting. Nestled between Cream City’s studio and a 19th Century warehouse built of Milwaukee’s famous Cream City brick, the enclosed garden provides a great location for couples to be photographed and exchange their vows with a bit of seclusion and privacy.
The garden was designed by Noreena Scheve, wife of Cream City Weddings’ founder Scott Patrick. The garden features several specimen trees native to Wisconsin and similar climate zones in North America, Europe and Japan. Many are evergreen but a few deciduous trees like a Weeping Katsura and Twisted Baby Locust add a splash of color in the fall. Two paths take you from the studio door and garden gate to the gathering space in the middle of the garden. The garden can seat up to 40 for ceremonies or be kept open for cocktails and socializing. Speaking of socializing, you may also get a chance to meet the couples’ chickens and cats but they don’t roam the garden during events.
With the Covid-19 virus effecting nearly everyone’s wedding plans during 2020. Cream City provided their garden for wedding ceremonies for several couples in need of a friendly location. The Milwaukee County Courthouse was closed for the summer and fall so several couples took advantage of the garden and Cream City’s officiating services to make their union official in the eyes of the state. As an outdoor venue, Cream City’s garden also makes for a safe alternative to indoor locations although masks are still recommended for groups of over 10 who are not immediate family members living with the couple.
Cream City Weddings is happy to share some photos from our final wedding of the season for 2020. Drew and Michelle chose Cream City because they wanted an outdoor ceremony location that was downtown, near their reception. They also needed Cream City’s full set of ceremony services with our officiant, photographer, and florist who created a simple seasonal bouquet and boutonniere for their wedding. With everything take care of, all Drew and Michelle had to do was show up. Some portraits were taken along the lakefront, then friends and family arrived at the garden for a beautiful and touching ceremony.
Close now for the season. Cream City’s Urban Garden will reopen Memorial Day Weekend in 2021 and be available for weekday or weekend ceremonies through the first weekend of October. Couple may contact the studio to reserve a specific date and time for their ceremony, or stay tuned for a select number of themed garden wedding dates with packages including everything from your photographer and officiant, to optional cocktails, floral and appetizers to enjoy while celebrating after the ceremony.
